Friday 19 July: Picnic and Midsummer Night’s Dream in Burgess Park

After last year’s success of going to see Edith Piaff together, here is another chance to enjoy each other’s company. No sweat or mud involved!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

People’s Company, an adult community theatre company based at Southwark Playhouse, is bringing Shakespeare to Burgess Park with an open air performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Where: Chumleigh Gardens, Burgess Park
When: Friday, 19th July, 7-9:30 pm

Chumleigh Gardens and Burgess Park provide an ideal setting for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in which Shakespeare conjures up the magical world of the Fairies and the marrage of Duke Theseus to Hippolyta. We see the playful sprite ‘Puck’ making his mischief with the comedy of two sets of rival lovers, the transformation of ‘Bottom’ into an Ass, and the amateur players, the Mechanicals, with a very comedic play within the play! It also sees Titania and Oberon and the magical world of the forest (Burgess Park) come to life before your eyes!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s best loved and most famous comedies, Our contemporary version of the play has been set in the Aylesbury Estate in the swinging 1960s! It is a psychedelic romp of physical theatre, music and fun.

Join us for the show? Please buy your own tickets here. Tickets: £10 and £8 unwaged (plus booking fee)

Picnic

Fancy meeting up for a picnic before the play? I will provide a basket full of yummy and healthy food for us to make the most of the summer evening. We will meet at 6 pm by the long park bench in front of the Park Life cafe and will then find a nice spot to enjoy our food.

I will bring plates, glasses and cutlery, but please bring a blanket and bottle if you’d like a glass of something to go with your food. There is an on-site bar for drinks and refreshments during the play.

Cost of the picnic: £10. Please sign up on Meetup or use the contact form below. I would be grateful for your payment in cash at least 48 hours before the evening. Make sure to let me know if you have any allergies!

Refunds:
I will refund if you cancel at least 48 hours before the evening. If the weather forecast on Thursday morning isn’t attractive enough for a picnic on Friday evening I will cancel and refund your money. (If the weather changes after that I will have probably already bought the ingredients for our food, so will not be able to refund).
