Saturday 2 November: Autumn walk in Richmond park

Join us for this beautiful green autumn walk in Richmond. We will start our walk in bustling Richmond. We will soon find our way to the Thames. From there it is a bit of a climb through a lovely park to Richmond park. While we are taking a breather we will admire the views over the River, before exploring the varied and less visited landscapes of Richmond Park.
It will be rutting season for the deer, so we will try to admire them from a safe distance. Our walk returns to Richmond via the views and pubs of Richmond Hill.

How to get there:

We will meet at 9.00 by the FCB coffee shop next to Denmark Hill Station, where we aim to hop on the 9.22 overground train to Clapham Junction. There we will change onto the 9.43 train to Richmond (platform 5).

If this is easier for you, you can also meet us in Richmond, where we should arrive around 10.00 am.
Please make sure you text me on 078 078 3456 4 to tell me you plan to do that, so we don’t hang around waiting for you at Elephant and Castle! 🙂

Terrain and length of the route:

The route is about 7 miles/ 11.5 kilometres. The route is undulating with some muddy and uneven terrain, as well as some road walking. Please wear good footwear with grippy soles.

Toilets, food/drinks & what to bring:

Richmond station has toilets. There are also toilets by the entrance to Richmond park, and plenty of pubs in Richmond where we could stop there for a drink and a toilet break after our walk.
I suggest we bring a pick-nick and enjoy your lunch outside, but if the weather isn’t attractive enough to eat outside, we could eat at Pembroke lodge in the park.

I have a reputation to uphold, so I am counting on sunny weather, but this walk will happen in any weather, unless it is unsafe. Please check the forecast and bring a sunhat, sunscreen and plenty of water and/or waterproofs. Waterproof trainers with a good grippy profile are highly recommended.

Who can join?

Anyone who can comfortably walk 7 miles. Feel free to bring a friend or family member, with or without poles. Nordic Walker or not, you are very welcome to join us, if you are Fit (enough) and Happy! 😊

Cost:

£10. If you are one of our regular Fit and Happy Outdoors walkers I can recommend buying a ten-session card for £89.
(Train tickets and food or drinks at café not included)
Nordic Walking:

Many of our regulars are nordic walkers, but you can join this walk with or without Nordic Walking poles.

Curious?

If you have never Nordic Walked before then our free taster sessions are probably the best option to feel what Nordic Walking can do for you, and how it is different from just “walking with sticks”. However, I am happy to lend you some poles, and I am sure some of the walkers will give you some quick tips. Of course, if I do happen to have a spare moment, and don’t need all my wits to make sure we don’t get lost, I am happy to give you some pointers too.

Don’t have your own poles? Would you like to borrow some from me? Text me the MORNING OF THE WALK on 078 078 3456 4 and I will bring you some. (please, please do not ask me days before, as I will forget and that will make us both unhappy!)
