26 April: Friday afternoon Bluebell Walk

Would you love to see the bluebells, but find our normal weekend walks just a bit too long? Missed our weekend walks? Here is your chance to see them!

Abbeywood is one of the best places to see and smell the bluebells in southeast London. And less than half an hour from London Bridge, this is such a special place. I would love to see them again in full bloom, and I would love to give you the chance to see them too, so I have added a shorter afternoon walk. A short walk from Abbeywood station, we will walk up the hill to enter a fairy tale wood. The birds will sing a concert to accompany our walk and Bluebells will line our paths. We might find some wild garlic and wood anemones too.

How to get there:

We meet up at 1.30 pm by the gates to platform 1 at London Bridge train station to get the 1.39 pm train to Slade Green, which should arrive at Abbeywood station at 2.06 pm.

If you would like to meet us at Abbeywood station, please make sure you text me on 078 078 3456 4 to tell me you plan to do that, so we don’t get all worried that you are not there! 🙂

Terrain and length of the route:

We will walk for about 3.5 miles, along unpaved forest paths. There are some little ups and downs, but no serious climbs. There will be no styles to climb over, but the paths could be muddy if it has been raining.

Toilets, food/drinks & what to bring:

There is a cafe with good cafe, lovely cakes and soups, and there are public toilets in Abbeywood, both are not far from the best place to see the blue bells.

You would make me very happy if you would be kind to mother earth and bring a cup so you don’t have to use a disposable paper cup from the cafe!

This walk will happen in any weather, unless it is unsafe, so bring your waterproofs and (preferably waterproof) shoes with a good grippy profile. I am optimistic about the weather and have a reputation to uphold, so I am counting on sunny weather, so don’t forget to bring a sunhat/cap and sunscreen too!

Who can join?

Anyone who can comfortably walk 3.5 miles.

Feel free to bring a friend or family member, with or without poles. Nordic Walkers or not, that doesn’t matter, as long as they are Fit (enough) and Happy! 😊

Cost:

£5. (Train tickets and food or drinks at café not included)

Need poles?

Don’t have your own poles? Would you like to borrow some from me? Text me the MORNING OF THE WALK on 078 078 3456 4 and I will bring you some. (please, please do not ask me days before, as I will forget and that will make us both unhappy!)

Thinking about buying your own?

Check our shop for a great range of poles. Too much choice? You might like to read this useful guide first. Feel free to give us a ring, we are happy to advise you on the best poles for your lifestyle, needs and wishes.
