Adventure walk 14 March – Angels, a famous oak and Nature spirits

Our March adventure walk will start in Nunhead, and we will take plenty of time to explore mysterious Nunhead Cemetary. Overgrown and tumbling tombstones, fallen angels and spectacular views make this a very special place start. Our walk follows through 3 more cemetaries, climbs up One Tree Hill to admire the oak under which Queen Elisabeth rested in 1601 on her way to Lewisham. (actually its younger cousin, same place, but his one is from 1905), then ends at nature spirits of the totem pole in front of the Horniman museum, where you can enjoy lunch or a cup of coffee, then visit the museum or just catch the 176 bus back home.

Walk: around 3.5 miles. Most of this walk will be up the hill, with some steep parts (One Tree Hill) and we will take some time to explore Nunhead cemetary, so be safe and calculate around 2-2.5 hours for this walk.

What is an Adventure Walk?

Enjoy Nordic Walking in London, discover surprisingly green and beautiful parts of London, enjoy the landscape and chatting with new or not so new friends. During the Adventure walks there is less emphasis on workout drills and technique than in our workout walks – we cover longer distances on mixed terrain, so you achieve a workout simply by completing the walk!

We are likely to be out for a minimum of 2 hours, so bring a snack and something to drink, and maybe some cash for a coffee if we decide to stop along the way or at the end of the route.

The routes we will walk are chosen to be relatively easy to reach by public transport from the Southwark/Lambeth area.

Who can join an adventure walk?
Everyone with a Nordic Walking UK Freedom card. Our adventure walks are all about Nordic Walking, and it won’t be much fun for yourself or others in the group if you don’t know how to do it. The Freedom card, which you will get at the end of the four week learn to Nordic Walk course, ensures you have the fitness and technique. No Freedom card? Call 078 078 3456 4 to discuss your experience, or sign up for one of our taster sessions.
