Saturday 2 February: Join us for a walk from North Greenwich to Blackheath

Join us for a walk from North Greenwich to Blackheath on Saturday 2 February, with some nice surprises along the way!
This walk revisits part of the Thames walk we did Sunday 13 January, but even if you joined us on that walk, there will be plenty new views to explore on this walk. This walk combines the great views over the Thames with parks, woodlands, a manor house and a deer park. We will end our walk in Blackheath where we can find a nice pub to celebrate our achievements.

This walk starts at North Greenwich Underground Station and ends at Blackheath National Rail Station, visiting the Thames Path, Charlton, Woolwich Common and Kidbrooke.

Maryon Wilson Park comprises a remnant of what was once the ancient woodland called Hanging Wood. Some belief the name comes from the Highwaymen and footpads, who used the woods to retreat after carrying out nefarious activities at Shooters Hill and Blackheath.

Until March we will gradually build up the length of our walks, as some of us are training to Nordic Walk the Big Half (marathon). So get in now, get some miles in, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the daylight. Even if you are not walking the Big Half, you might find yourself super fit, happy and healthy by the time spring starts!

Where do we meet?

We meet up at 10.15 am by the entrance of North Greenwich tube station.
If you prefer not to travel alone, I plan to take the 9.35 bus 343 from Wells Way (in Camberwell) to London Bridge Station, from where we can take the Jubilee line tube to North Greenwich. You could meet us at London Bridge station too, if that is easier. Just text me so I know to look out for you!
Please take note of my mobile 078 078 3456 4, just in case you can’t find us!

Terrain and length of the route:

The length of this walk is 8.5 miles / 13.5 kilometres, but there are several drop-out points available. This walk follows mostly paved paths, but there might be a couple of steps and stairs along the way . Some trails could be quite muddy if it has been raining, so good footwear is recommended.

Toilets, food/drinks & what to bring:

I suggest we bring a pick-nick and enjoy our lunch outside, but there are various places we could stop for a bite to eat and a hot drink if the weather isn’t nice enough to eat outside.
There are public toilets at various places along our route.
Don’t forget to bring something to drink for on the way.
This walk will happen in any weather unless it is unsafe, so bring your waterproofs if necessary, and (preferably waterproof) shoes with a good grippy profile, and make sure to bring a sunhat/cap or your sunglasses, as we often seem to be lucky with the weather!

Who can join?

Anyone who can comfortably walk 12 km.
Feel free to bring a friend or family member, with or without poles. Nordic Walkers or not, that doesn’t matter, as long as they are Fit (enough) and Happy! 😊

If you are genuinely poverty stricken- £5

Need poles?

Don’t have your own poles? Would you like to borrow some from me? Text me the MORNING OF THE WALK on 078 078 3456 4 and I will bring you some. (please, please do not ask me days before, as I will forget and that will make us both unhappy!)

Thinking about buying your own?
Check our shop for a great range of poles. Too much choice? You might like to read this useful guide first. Feel free to give us a ring, we are happy to advise you on the best poles for your lifestyle, needs and wishes.
