Walk your way to weight loss 1- success story

Fit and Happy Outdoors member John told me today that he has lost 15 kilo’s since he started Nordic Walking in February. That is almost 3 kilo’s per month! John is sure he could not have done it without his regular Nordic walks.

His journey hasn’t always been easy. Before John started Nordic Walking, first his own and later his partner’s health problems had forced him to be quite inactive for a couple of years, so the first 45 minutes taster session was quite a workout. Inactivity and weight had made John’s knees quite sore and even a short walk got him quite out of breath. But John’s determination is strong. Since April, John now walks 2-3 times per week, and now he not only regularly walks the long way around Burgess Park, he also enjoys walking up and down the hills. He says it is to take a look at the gorgeous wild flowers, but I know it helps that he knows it really boosts his fitness too.

John tells me the poles have really helped him with balance and taking the weight off his joints and our warm up exercises and the stretches at the end of the sessions have helped improve coordination and mobility.

And even though John’s knees still hurt sometimes, he does find that they have improved greatly, and he can really feel the difference if he hasn’t been walking enough.
It makes me super proud to be able to support and encourage him in his new healthy lifestyle. Congratulations, John, and up to the next 15!
